INRAE also guides the scaling-up of cross-sectoral solutions beyond individual sites. As part of this effort, it provides the model developed in the TALANOA-Water project for the Aude Valley and explores how it can be adapted to other regions.

CIRAD - France

CIRAD collaborates closely with partners in southern countries to generate knowledge, support decision-makers, and contribute to global discussions on major agricultural challenges.
Role in the project: CIRAD will develop a theoretical framework and concrete guidelines for achieving resilient territorial systems in the demonstration sites, exploration sites and beyond. It will co-design, develop, and implement communication, dissemination, and exploitation actions in an integrated, multi-scale manner (national, international, and partnership) while leveraging inter- and intra-site expertise. It will also be working in close relationship with IAV for implementation of the project in Morocco and INAT for implementation of the project in Tunisia.

Description: The FAR Network was initiated by training professionals in 2006, sharing the urgency of investing in agricultural and rural training throughout the African continent. Launched informally in 2006 and formally established in 2012, it now includes 19 member countries and brings together over 5,000 professionals involved in the design, management and evaluation of training systems. The network supports countries in renewing their agricultural training strategies through knowledge sharing, capacity building and the production of useful expertise. It also collaborates with research institutes to integrate scientific results into training programmes and professional practices.
Role in the project: FAR will bring its experience in knowledge management and network coordination. It will use its communication tools within the communication and dissemination plan and leverage its network within the exploitation plan. Additionally, FAR will support the technical MORFeuS partners in building training materials and educational tools on Nexus.

Known internationally for its agro-hydrological measurement and communication tools—such as the HydraScout wireless soil moisture probe and the Odusol IoT platform—HSTI supports real-time monitoring and decision-making in irrigation. By making digital water-monitoring technologies more accessible, the company aims to help improve irrigation practices, reduce water withdrawals, and enhance agricultural productivity.
Role in the project: HSTI will help design, adapt and deploy technological solutions across all Demonstration Sites. Its contribution includes tailoring existing tools to users’ needs, developing and testing new technologies, and implementing them under real farming conditions. The company will also train project stakeholders, ensure the operation and maintenance of deployed systems, and support their continuous improvement throughout the project.

Role in the project: IRD will study comprehension of water quality issues (pesticides, salinity and faecal pollution in surface water and groundwater). By developing the links with the Nexus resilience framework at the Moroccan site, the implementation of IRD will also involve the co-development of a water quality monitoring network with a focus on the role of rural women and will also involve a comparison with other Mediterranean sites water quality issues.

Role in the project: The Park serves as a demonstration site in France, leading the local participatory approach to co-develop adaptation solutions. Its activities focus on helping farms adapt to climate change and water scarcity, including challenges posed by saline aquifers and soils. Special attention is given to soil heritage as a key lever for adaptation, considering soil health, water retention, carbon sequestration, and agronomic potential. The Park also supports spatial planning of agricultural activities, aiming to optimize water use while encouraging economic diversification on farms.

Role in the project: AEG leads local activities by recruiting and deploying territorial facilitators who work closely with farmers and stakeholders to enhance adaptive capacities. These facilitators provide technical guidance, support the adoption of resilient farming practices, and help formalise sustainable resource management strategies to prepare the local agricultural sector for environmental and economic challenges.
