DS#2: FRANCE - AUDE VALLEY

Aude valley is a typical lower Mediterranean delta with farming activities related to wine growing, cereal crops, fishing and grasslands for husbandry.

This region faces severe water and wine crisis with specific trade-offs between increasing water use efficiency and electrical production (hydro and solar power) and ecosystems.

The Aude coastal strip and eastern Aude stretch along the department’s coastline and extend northwards from Narbonne (see map below). The challenges relating to the management of water infrastructure, the supply of drinking water in terms of both quantity and quality, agricultural irrigation, food supply, the energy sector (hydroelectricity, solar and wind farms) and the state of fragile ecosystems are central to this area and are interlinked.
