Context

Description: 

This region (3,300 km2, 4,500 farms for 890 km2 of agricultural area) is a typical lower Mediterranean delta with rich ecosystems and activities among which wine growing, tourism, fishing, and residential economy.

Socio-economic issues: 

This region faces severe water & wine crisis with specific trade-offs between increasing water use efficiency & electrical production (hydro & solar power) & ecosystems.

WEFE resource status: 

• Water basin in very large deficit; 
• Trade-offs between upstream hydropower production,irrigated agriculture and lower basin ecosystems  
• Increasing risks of soil and water salinity.
