MORFeuS launch workshop, in Morocco (October 6, 2025)

Organisation of territorial workshops highlihting the transition from assessment to action in the M'Semrir-Tilmi region.

Two complementary workshops were organised in the field. The first was held at the ORMVAO headquarters, bringing together institutional actors involved in natural resource management and territorial development. The second took place in the heart of the M'Semrir–Tilmi territory, at the headquarters of the Pomme de M'Semrir economic interest group, with the active participation of local actors and farmers from the territory.

The aim of these workshops was, on the one hand, to review the collective process that led to the emergence and structuring of the MORFeuS project and, on the other hand, to present its scientific and operational objectives and the proposed methodological approach in a shared manner. Particular attention was paid to explaining the Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystems (WEFE) Nexus approach, which constitutes the central analytical and operational framework of the project.

Finally, these meetings provided an opportunity to further discussions on the results of the territorial assessment and to open up a space for co-construction with local stakeholders on the solutions and innovations to be implemented. This participatory approach aims to generate responses tailored to local issues, while strengthening collective action, shared learning, and territorial governance.

These workshops illustrate the MORFeuS project's ambition to anchor itself in the realities of the territories, by combining knowledge production, multi-stakeholder dialogue, and experimentation with territorialised solutions, in the service of sustainable and resilient transition trajectories.

Scientific and strategic retreat (November 11, 2025)

In order to strenghten the project's methodology and plan activities.

This meeting provided an opportunity for collective reflection on the methodological foundations of the project, with in-depth discussions on research approaches, conceptual frameworks, and how they relate to scientific and operational objectives. Particular attention was paid to planning activities and clarifying roles in order to ensure the consistent and progressive implementation of the various planned actions.

The MORFeuS project is part of an integrated territorial approach based on the Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystems (WEFE) nexus and aims to co-develop, with local stakeholders, operational solutions adapted to Mediterranean contexts. It has a strong international dimension, mobilising research institutions and pilot territories in several countries, while promoting local roots and territorial dynamics.

In Morocco, MORFeuS is being deployed in regions facing major challenges in terms of sustainability, natural resource management, and territorial governance, where IAV Hassan II is actively contributing to the articulation between scientific production, collective action, and support for public policies.

Organisation of a field school in the M'Semrir-Tilmi region, involving Agroeconomic students (January 5-16, 2026)

From January 5 to 16, faculty members from the Department of Humanities at the Hassan II Institute of Agronomy and Veterinary Medicine organised a field school for fifth-year students in the agroeconomics program, held in the M'Smrir–Tilmi region. This educational initiative is realised in conjunction with the dynamics of the SIRMA network.

Designed as an immersive learning experience, this field school aimed to familiarise students with territorial approaches, using multidisciplinary methods and tools: field surveys, semi-structured interviews, participatory workshops, and focus groups with local stakeholders.

The analysis of the dynamics and challenges of the M'Smrir-Tilmi territory was conducted using an integrated Nexus approach—water, food, energy, and ecosystems—which structured the entire methodological and thematic reflection. This experience enabled students to articulate analytical frameworks, field methods, and systemic readings of territorial transitions, while strengthening their operational skills and critical analysis abilities.
