TALANOA-WATER

Water management at the regional level is one of the major challenges facing society, and agriculture in particular, in adapting to climate change. The objective of the European TALANOA-WATER project is to identify and evaluate transformative and robust adaptation strategies to water scarcity in the context of climate change and to accelerate their adoption while contributing to integrated water resource management objectives (social equity, economic efficiency and environmental sustainability).

The TALANOA project proposes to develop an ‘innovation ecosystem’ that combines an inclusive and transparent method of stakeholder engagement with a hydro-socio-economic modelling framework, including the use of a serious game to explore different adaptation strategies.

These transformative adaptation strategies will be explored in six Mediterranean river basins serving as ‘water pilot laboratories’ (Italy, Egypt, France, Lebanon, Spain and Tunisia). The strategies will be contrasting combinations of different types of solutions, such as demand management measures and resource creation.
