INNOVATION 3: Agricultural reconquest of fallow lands

INNOVATION 3: Agricultural reconquest of fallow lands

SPADES Project – Pays Coeur d’Hérault

What it is:

Within the SPADES EU project, in Montpellier the objective is to understand how to integrate agriculture into public land management strategies and how to foster such integration (more information here).

 Origin:

  • Research project aiming at understanding how local initiatives towards revalorizing abandoned agricultural lands are functioning and at supporting land-use planning decisions

Actions developed during the project:

  • Production of an operational guide for revalorizing fallow lands / abandoned agricultural lands, based on experience sharing.

Inspiration for the Aude Demontration Site (and other Demo Sites):

  • The methodological approach to capture the variety of understandings of fallow lands / abandoned agricultural lands and the guide to revalorize them
  • Some specific initiatives that protect agricultural and natural lands in peri-urban areas, or communal decision to make municipal fallows available to experiment with the implementation of public action (i.e., objective of the initiative and way it works)
  • Still in progress with receptivity to field evaluation: alignment with the participative and iterative dimension of MORFeuS
