INNOVATION 5: Agricultural Innovations on public lands

INNOVATION 5: Agricultural Innovations on public lands

Diverse initiatives, on fallow lands but not only

What it is:

Several public initiatives to install agricultural activities on public land, conditioned to agricultural practices (e.g., agroecology). Some of these initiatives target fallow lands (see Innovation 3), and also new supply chains (in link with Innovation 4)

Origin:

  • Several initiatives, supported or documented by researchers

Actions developed during the project (more information here):

  • Mobilise agricultural land, at the scale of the Metropolis and its municipalities, to host farmers who comply with specific environmental clauses.
  • Preservation of agricultural land through planning documents (link to local urbanism plans).
  • Land‑ownership management via experiments that promote farm diversification and the transmission of holdings.
  • Re‑claiming abandoned agricultural plots by creating agricultural land‑ownership associations.
  • Integrating agricultural and food projects into development and planning operations.

Inspiration for the Aude Demontration Site (and other Demo Sites):

  • Fostering of the agroecology transition by promoting alternative models on public land, for local food production
  • Conditionality to low-input practices, including water resource
